The Problem: Growing Numbers of Uninsured Missourians
Like the rest of the country, the percentage of uninsured Missourians is growing. The growth in the number of uninsured is because of three trends.
- Declining employer-sponsored health plan coverage.
Nationally, the percentage of firms offering employer-sponsored coverage declined from 69 percent in 2000 to 60 percent in 2007.
- Working adults and families without employer-sponsored health plans who cannot afford insurance in the individual private market.
- Fewer working adults are covered by MO HealthNet (formerly Medicaid).
To be covered by MO HealthNet, a working adult with a family of four must earn less than $4,104 per year.
