The Problem: Growing Numbers of Uninsured Missourians

Like the rest of the country, the percentage of uninsured Missourians is growing. The growth in the number of uninsured is because of three trends.

1. Declining employer-sponsored health plan coverage.
   Nationally, the percentage of firms offering employer-sponsored coverage declined from 69 percent in 2000 to 60 percent in 2007.
   
   
2. Working adults and families without employer-sponsored health plans who cannot afford insurance in the individual private market.
   
   
3. Fewer working adults are covered by MO HealthNet (formerly Medicaid).
   To be covered by MO HealthNet, a working adult with a family of four must earn less than $4,104 per year.
